WATER – THE ESSENTIAL INGREDIENT FOR LIFE

Water is absolutely essential. You could probably survive for weeks without food. But you can live only a few days without water. Humans have no capacity to store “spare” water, so we must quickly replace any that’s lost. Overall, water makes up between 45 and 75 percent of a person’s weight. Leaner people have proportionately more water because muscle tissue is nearly three-fourths water by weight, whereas adipose tissue is only about 10% water. The one bit of chemistry that almost everyone can rattle off is the chemical formula for water: H2O. Water is such a simple molecule that people often do not appreciate its extraordinary physical and chemical properties.

8 WEEK SUMMER CHALLENGE – WHAT HAPPENED?

What happened? Did I quit or fall off the wagon?? No, I did not quit because I wanted to, I quit because I noticed several issues regarding the diet. Long story short:My body did not respond very well to the suggested form of dieting. As I learned from my past mistakes I do not believe in cutting out a food group and I especially do not believe in very high protein diets. Everyone is different and it might work for others but it definitely did not work for me at all.

SPOTLIGHT ON SUPPLEMENTS

Supplements seem to be everywhere: In stores, on social media and several other online platforms. Do we really need them? Why do we take supplements? Since my FNS Exam is getting closer I decided to write a post about supplements, simply because so many people use them. Approximately one-third of American adults and almost 12% of children ages 4-17 used complementary health approaches in 2012. Almost 18 percent of American adults used a nonvitamin/nonmineral natural product in recent years; fish oil/omega-3s were the most commonly used natural product among adults.* Why do we think we need supplements? Do we really believe everything we see or read on social media nowadays? First of all I’m not saying that I’m against supplements. I take some myself too – but I choose wisely and spend time on reliable sources and scientific evidence rather than believing social media promoters or so called “fitness gurus”.
