MAJOR MINERALS

Minerals are involved in numerous body functions and unlike vitamins most people might not be very familiar with them. Minerals are inorganic elemental atoms or ions and unlike carbohydrates, protein and fat, minerals are not changed during digestion or when the body uses them and are not destroyed by heat, light or alkalinity and play many essential roles in our bodies, for example minerals maintain fluid balances, blood pH, nerve transmission and muscle function. Some of these minerals are needed in larger quantities (macro minerals) whilst others are only needed in smaller or trace amounts (micro minerals) by the body.

APPLE – RADISH LEAVES SMOOTHIE

Radishes are a great root vegetable. I personally love the peppery taste of the leaves, unfortunately most of the times the leafy greens get thrown away. I guess many people don’t know what to do with them or might not be aware of the fact that the radish leaves are edible and delicious too, which is why I decided to try them in a smoothie. Guess what, it was delicious!

ARE SMOOTHIES A WHOLE MEAL?

Smoothies seem to be everywhere nowadays. You can find them on the breakfast menu at your local breakfast place, in a juice bar or on several other restaurant menus. I had breakfast with friends of mine a few days ago and I noticed several other customers ordered a regular breakfast plus on top of it a smoothie. There is nothing wrong with smoothies – I love them a lot and have one at least every day – my point is I guess a lot of people are not aware how many calories they might consume with one smoothie or that in some cases a smoothie is a whole meal.
